To recognize, celebrate, and honor the Divine Presence in everyone and everything, as lived by Jesus.
We celebrate as an inclusive Eucharistic community by inspiring and supporting spiritual growth, providing education, and ministering to local and global needs, “living justly, loving tenderly, and walking humbly with God. (Micah 6:8)
The ordained women and men of the Upper Room were ordained by the bishops of the Association of Roman Catholic Women Priests (ARCWP). The movement began with the ordination of seven women on the Danube River in 2002. The first women bishops were ordained by a male Roman Catholic bishop in apostolic succession and in communion with the Pope. We have not left the Roman Catholic Church but are modeling a Catholic Church of inclusivity, embracing equal rites to promote equal rights and justice for all. (https://arcwp.org)
Theology of Original Blessing
The Upper Room Inclusive Catholic Community believes in a theology of Original Blessing, not Original Sin. Original Blessing emphasizes the goodness of God’s creation and the innate goodness of humanity, not the sin of our ancestors. It promotes a concept of a loving and supportive Divine Presence who is within, around and among us. We believe that we come into this world as an Original Blessing.
The Upper Room community supports both global and local ministries, including the Malala Fund, the DreamCatcher Foundation, St. John’s St. Ann’s Welcome table, St. Vincent’s Food Pantry, South End Children’s Cafe and Family Promise. We are always open to new ways to serve. Committees exist for members to participate further in our community: Education Committee, Fellowship Activities Committee, Marketing / Promotion Committee, Outreach Ministries Committee and Prayer and Worship Committee.
